Cystic Fibrosis Trust

There are plenty of ways to get involved with the Trust and help other young people with CF. Here are some current opportunities that you might find interesting:

Youth Advisory Group

We are always looking for people to be part of our Youth Advisory Group, a way for young people to influence work at the Trust and ensure that the voices of young people with CF are heard. YAG is made up of young people aged 14-25 who are living with CF or close to someone living with CF.

Dates for your diary:

Mental health and CF – 26th February, 7pm

Three out of four mental health conditions start before a person’s 18th birthday, and young people with CF sometimes feel like their physical symptoms are prioritised over their mental health. To start a discussion about this, we will be hosting a mental health and wellbeing talk led by young people with CF on the 26th February, 7pm as part of our Building Brighter Futures project funded by Children in Need. If you’ve got questions that you’d like to hear answered or topics you think are important discussed, tweet us @cftrustyouth, or log them anonymously on our SurveyMonkey  questionnaire.

Games night – 2nd March, 8pm

Dust off your headset, fire up the X-Box and settle in for a night of laughing, coughing and a healthy dose of friendly competition. Anyone with CF is welcome and siblings can log on too. Friend our gaming handle (CFTrustYouth) on your X-Box and we’ll add you to the group on the night. Tweet @CFTrustYouth if you’ve got a game you’d like to play. PS4 fans, don’t worry, your time is coming soon!

Joe Dexter from Orange talk - 14th March, 7pm

Joe Dexter, front man of the pop-punk band Orange, will be talking about his move to LA, music career and CF in March. Listen to his song about CF or tweet him before the event @theJoeDexter. This is part of our Building Brighter Futures project funded by Children in Need.

Preparing for work – 21st March – 25th April

Our next Building Brighter Futures 6-week programme will be starting on the 21st March and will be all about starting work. You can sign up for the full programme below (and get your hands on a welcome pack) or pop into the sessions that you’re interested in. All participants are invited to send in their CV for a free review from our partner company TPP recruitment. It’s run by a HR professional and is a great opportunity to skill up and feel more confident about the job hunt process.

The sessions are:

  • 21st March - Effective job hunting
  • 28th March – CV and cover letter advice
  • 4th April – Interview prep part one (before the interview)
  • 11th April – Interview prep part two (when you’re in the interview)
  • 18th April – Your first job – your rights, reasonable adjustments and the law
  • 25th April – Your first job – do’s and don’ts, managing your social media accounts

What’s next? Post-16 information coming in the Spring

Post-16 options can be a bit nerve-wrecking so we’ve asked the CF community for their advice and experiences. This resource is for anyone who has just finished their GCSEs and are wondering – what next?
